Don't Forget Daddy

This is the story of Ashley whose father has passed away. She is now faced with a new man in her mother's life. Although she loves Robert, she fears they will forget her daddy.
I wrote this as a children's story, but many adults have told me it had an impact on their lives because they faced the same thing as a child.
This is a story that should be read to any child whose life will change because of death, divorce, or remarriage.
Ashley was excited. Robert was coming to dinner. Robert was Mommy’s new friend that she met at church. Ashley liked Robert. When he hugged her, she felt warm and safe just like when Daddy hugged her before he went to see Jesus. They were having macaroni and cheese. Ashley could hardly wait.
While Mommy cooked, Robert and Ashley read a story. Ashley liked reading to Robert. She liked the way he laughed at the funny parts like Daddy did before he got sick.
After dinner, Mommy, Robert, and Ashley played a game. Ashley won. After the game, Mommy said, “Ashley, it is time to get ready for bed.”
“Mommy, can’t I stay up and talk to Robert?”
Robert said, “Miss Ashley, Mommy knows best. Now run along, and put on your pajamas.”
