He requested the weekend to himself to think quietly and make a decision. His family and friends honored his wish and were amazed when they received a text Sunday night telling them he had made the decision.
He had decided to do what literally every friend and family member advised against. His oldest relative said, "I can't believe anyone would be stupid."
The younger man is aware that everyone in the family is upset with him.
How can we be so stupid? When literally everyone we love, advises us against something, why don't we listen? Why are we more willing to listen to strangers than those we love? Yes, they're our loved ones and sometimes they drive us crazy, but they do love us and want what is best for us.
We are more than willing to be swayed by people who don't give a whiff about us. Here are a few things to consider when someone is advising you:
- Do they have our best interest at heart?
- Are they using logic or emotions to persuade us?
- Do have an interest in this matter?
Thank you for coming. I will update my friend's status when I have time.
